Libraries in the Digital Age

A study promoting collaborative opportunities in relation to the European digital library

1 January 2008 - 1 January 2010,  00:00 - 00:00,

Focus was on the need to ensure the interests of the academic and scholarly community were recognised as the European digital library matured.

The aim of the strand was to inform partner investment in and support to digital libraries by information exchange and potential collaboration on strategies for content creation, including digitisation, registries of digital collections and services and interoperability frameworks.

‘European Digital Libraries' may be understood as both referring to the European Commission EDL project (www.edlproject.eu and www.europeana.eu) and the very broad range of national and European activities and initiatives currently supporting the development of digital libraries.

In 2010 Knowledge Exchange decided that the discussions on digitisation and national policies are effectively taking place in various other forums. It was therefore decided to discontinue the Libraries in the Digital Age Working Group.
