DFG
The German Research Foundation (DFG - Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) is the central, self-governing research organisation that promotes research at universities and other publicly financed research institutions in Germany. The DFG serves all branches of science and the humanities by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation among researchers.
The active partner of the DFG in Knowledge Exchange is the group LIS (Academic Libaries and Information Systems), which coordinates and funds activities in information infrastructure.
The group is organized into six main programmes and overseen by a main committee, the AWBI (Committee on Academic Libraries and Information Systems), which is responsible for setting policy and reviewing grants for the group as a whole.
The AWBI has recently formulated a new strategy for funding priorities until 2015.
The group LIS funds projects in six main programme areas:
-
Nationwide Library Services (Überregionale Literaturversorgung)
-
Cultural Heritage (Kulturelle Überlieferung)
-
Electronic Publishing in Academia (Elektronische Publikationen im wissenschaftlichen Literatur- und Informationsangebot)
-
Thematic Information Networks (Themenorientierte Informationsnetze)
-
Tools and Methods of Scientific Information Management (Werkzeuge und Verfahren des wissenschaftlichen Informationsmanagements)
-
Centers for Excellence for Research Information Systems (Leistungszentren für Forschungsinformation)
