JISC
The Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) supports further and higher education by providing strategic guidance, advice and opportunities to use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to support teaching, learning, research and administration. JISC is funded by all the UK further and higher education funding councils.
JISC's mission is to 'provide world-class leadership in the innovative use of ICT to support education and research'.
The vision underlying the JISC Strategy 2004-06 is one of 'ubiquitous and reliable access to an information and communication environment, so that users are able to enjoy world class technologies in support of their work and study'.
In reality, the achievement of this vision requires the development of sophisticated tools, complex management mechanisms, services to support users and the collaboration of activities across different communities.
This strategy provides an overall direction to the work of the JISC sub-committees, programmes and services.
The strategy is supported by a JISC operating plan which is an articulation of how the aims and priorities will be achieved. A full and shorter version of the JISC Strategy 2004 – 2006 is available.
