Professor Liebrand reminded the delegates that the purpose of the Knowledge Exchange is to exchange information about the ICT programmes in our four countries, seeking to add genuine value to the investments we make. We try to support the European agenda, by ensuring that the expert view is recognised at the political level and inspire virtual networks of expertise.

Gerard van Westrienen, Assistant Director of Research, SURF Foundation highlighted the purpose of the workshop; to exchange information and ideas and define a set of issues, suitable for collaborative approaches which will translate into recommendations to each of the Knowledge Exchange partners.
Covering a range of issues, the workshop proposed to explore a range of issues, across six themes:
- Usage statistics
- Metadata of research papers
- Exchanging research information
- Author identification
